2008 EPA Mason Hewitt Award
The GeoData Gateway (GDG) and EPA Metadata Editor (EME) won the 2008 EPA Mason Hewitt Award for Advancing EPA’s Geospatial Efforts. Each spring, EPA’s Geographic Information System (GIS) Community gathers together to recognize its most significant annual achievement through the Mason Hewitt Award (MHA). The Award was established over a decade ago after Mason Hewitt, one of the founders of EPA’s geospatial program, died in a tragic motorcycle accident. The winner is chosen by the GIS community through a popular vote. The GDG and EME provide EPA with an effective, robust solution for geospatial data and metadata management. The GDG is very rapidly becoming the heart of EPA’s Geospatial Data Management Program, and has been recognized by the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) Secretariat Metadata Subcommittee as a model for other agencies to follow. Innovate personnel were the primary developers of the EME and have been heavily engaged in the design, development and implementation of the GDG.
